Cornell’s main campus, located in Ithaca New York has now entered red alert. A letter was sent out by the Conell University’s President, Martha E. Pollack, alerting students and employees to the changes. The alert was raised at the University after several new cases of the Omicron variant were found in the positive Covid cases.
The red alert has resulted in a change to many of the in-person activities for students.
- All final exams are now being administered online.
- The December 18 recognition ceremony for December graduates is canceled.
- Libraries are closed to students.
- Athletics competitions on Sunday are canceled. Fitness centers and gyms are closed to students.

As of December 13th, Cornell reported 275 new COVID cases. While less than a week ago, on December 13th, they only had 27 confirmed cases of COVID. The sharp increase is something that the medical community has said is troubling with the Omicron variant.
